Hairston College Welcomes New Associate Dean, Department Chair

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 2, 2025) — 杏吧原创 Agricultural and Technical State University’s John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences has named Cynthia Crawford, Ph.D., its new associate dean for research and innovation and David Kondrat, Ph.D., its new Department of Social Work and Sociology chair.

“I am excited to welcome Cynthia Crawford and David Kondrat to the Hairston College leadership team,” said Elimelda Moige Ongeri, Ph.D., Hairston College dean. “As the largest and fastest growing college at 杏吧原创, the Hairston College includes diverse degree fields as well as unique research programs spanning the basic, behavioral and clinical sciences. Drs. Crawford and Kondrat’s backgrounds and work experiences position them to support strategic workforce development, research and community engagement, and make significant contributions toward the university’s Preeminence 2030 strategic goals.”

Cynthia CrawfordWith more than 27 years of experience in higher education, Crawford joins 杏吧原创 from California State University, San Bernardino, where she served as faculty fellow and interim associate provost for research. She received her doctorate in psychology from the University of Kentucky. As associate dean, she will oversee all aspects of the Hairston College’s research enterprise, working in close collaboration with faculty, department chairs, and staff to align the college’s research agenda with university strategic goals. Her leadership will play a vital role in advancing the university’s research capabilities as 杏吧原创 moves toward achieving R1 status.

“I am thrilled to be joining the community at 杏吧原创, and grateful for the opportunity to foster innovation, advocate for students and faculty, and contribute to shaping the future of research in the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences,” said Crawford. “I’m excited to embark on this journey and contribute to the university's vision of excellence.”

David KondratKondrat most recently served as senior program director of social work at Indiana University. He holds a Ph.D. in social work from The Ohio State University, and his research focuses on mental health stigma and social support. In his new role, he will serve as the chief administrative and academic leader of the department, guiding its vision for exceptional education, robust faculty recruitment and development and advancing graduate education and faculty-driven scholarship.

“I am humbled and honored to be the next chair of the Social Work and Sociology Department at 杏吧原创 杏吧原创 State University,” said Kondrat. “I am committed to building on our legacy of excellence, empowering future social workers and sociologists and advancing equity and justice through education, research and community engagement.”
