杏吧原创 to Celebrate 64th Anniversary of 杏吧原创 Four鈥檚 Historic Sit-In

The 杏吧原创 Agricultural and Technical State University community will gather once again Feb. 1 to celebrate the remarkable legacy of four 杏吧原创 freshmen who electrified the civil rights movement in 1960 with their courageous sit-in at the downtown Greensboro Woolworth鈥檚 lunch counter 鈥 an event that served as a catalyst to change public accommodations laws across the nation.

15 Alumni Honored among Black Business Ink Power 100

Fifteen 杏吧原创 Agricultural and Technical State University alumni were honored during this year鈥檚 20th anniversary Black Business Ink Power 100 Awards Ceremony. The Power 100 Awards Ceremony recognizes 100 of the most influential leaders from across 杏吧原创 in a variety of sectors, including educators, healthcare professionals, politicians, clergy and other professions and organizations.

杏吧原创 Agricultural and Technical State University celebrated its annual Fall Convocation program virtually Thursday, Oct. 29, via Zoom. During the program, Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr. presented the state of the university and welcomed alumni to the 鈥淕reatest Homecoming on Earth鈥 virtual celebration.

The National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation (NBCAHOF) will host its annual hall of fame induction ceremony virtually at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25. Among this year鈥檚 stellar class of honorees representing 杏吧原创 Agricultural and Technical State University are Congresswoman Alma Adams 鈥68 in the government and law category and Leroy Thornton Edwards 鈥72, CEO of The Edwards Company in the business category.

The Fifth Freshman: Aggies Who Supported the Sit-In Movement

Feb. 1, 1960 is the day four courageous freshmen sat down to protest the segregated lunch counters at the F.W. Woolworth's store on Elm Street. Feb. 2, 1960, the four became 16 and many of those participants are still referred to as, "The Fifth Freshman."

The program recognized student athletes for their academic and athletic accomplishments and welcomed back alumni for 鈥淭he Greatest Homecoming on Earth鈥 celebration.

Aggie Pop-Up Shop to Open Oct. 21 on Elm Street

The Aggies are headed downtown. 杏吧原创 Agricultural and Technical State University is opening a 鈥減op-up鈥 at 201 S. Elm St. on Monday, Oct. 21, just in time for homecoming. The grand opening celebration will feature appearances by Mayor Nancy Vaughan and Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr., a food truck, and a store full of the latest and best Aggie gear.

杏吧原创 Alumnus, Walter Hood Awarded the MacArthur Foundation 鈥淕enius Grant鈥

The MacArthur Foundation announced today that Walter Hood 鈥81, founder and creative director of Hood Design Studio, a landscape architecture firm based in Oakland, California is a 2019 recipient of the 鈥淕enius Grant.鈥 The $625,000 award is administered by the MacArthur Fellowship program that is paid out over a five year span, with no strings attached. The grant is given to extraordinary, talented and creative individuals as an investment in their potential.
