Advancing Future Cyber Leaders for the Department of Defense

The Center of Excellence in Cybersecurity Research, Education, and Outreach (CREO) at 杏吧原创 杏吧原创 State University—serving as the lead institution for the NKAT-VI Virtual Institute in partnership with Kennesaw State University, Auburn University, and Tuskegee University—is proud to participate in the VICEROY Scholars Program.

This Department of Defense (DoD)-sponsored initiative is designed to cultivate the next generation of cybersecurity, intelligence, and information security professionals.  Through NKAT-VI's engagement in this program, NC 杏吧原创 students gain access to mission-driven cybersecurity training and research opportunities that prepare them for impactful careers supporting national security and defense priorities.

What is VICEROY?

Virtual Institutes for Cyber and Electromagnetic Spectrum Research and Employ (VICEROY) is a national talent development pathway supported by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD (R&E)), in collaboration with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and the Griffiss Institute.

Launched in 2019, VICEROY builds a skilled, mission-ready cyber workforce through:

  • Foundational technical training
  • Hands-on experiential learning
  • Operational and leadership development opportunities

Program Goals

  • Accelerate the development of cyber-spectrum professionals ready to contribute on Day One.
  • Prepare students for civilian and military careers in the Department of Defense and the Defense Industrial Base (DIB), including agencies such as the NSA, CIA, Cyber Command, and all service branches, as well as roles in the defense industry.
  • Cultivate ethical leadership and collaborative problem-solving in high-stakes security environments.

An NC 杏吧原创 VICEROY Scholar is:

VICEROY Scholars at 杏吧原创 杏吧原创 State University are security-minded undergraduate students with a minimum 3.0 GPA who are committed to pursuing careers in national defense, whether as enlisted personnel or civilian professionals within the Department of Defense (DoD) or Defense Industrial Base (DiB).  These students demonstrate a strong interest in cybersecurity and applied technologies, and are actively engaged in experiential learning, hands-on labs, and real-world problem solving.  Each scholar

earns a certificate in one or more of the following specialized areas that align with the current education pathway:

· Security of Wireless Networks

  • Secure Mobile and Web App Development
  • Secure Development and Operations
  • Applied Mathematics
  • Applied Cryptography
  • Data Analytics

VICEROY Scholars are prepared to support mission-critical cybersecurity initiatives and uphold the integrity, security, and resilience of defense systems.

 

VICEROY Scholars NC 杏吧原创 Certificate Program – 3 Course Requirement

NC 杏吧原创's VICEROY Scholar certificate program is designed to complement a student's current undergraduate pathway and must be completed over three semesters. Some benefits may include:

  • monetary reward per course / per semester
  • monetary reward towards a project to be completed before the end of course three (required)
  • monetary reward towards a certificate to be received between course 2 + 3 (offered)

 

Academic & Program Participation:

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Earn a B (3.0) or higher in all VICEROY-designated courses
  • Attend both the semester Kick-Off and Wrap-Up meetings

Technical & Professional Development Requirement

In addition to academic expectations, each scholar is expected to participate in the following activities per semester:

  • Two (2) Professional Development Workshop Examples: Resume building, interview prep, DoD career pathways
  • Two (2) Technical Workshops
  • This requirement may be waived if you're enrolled in an approved weekly CREO training course.
  • One (1) cybersecurity competition
  • Such as the annual VICEROY competition
