Why Minor in English?

Pairing any major with a minor in English opens the door to endless possibilities. You'll get better at writing, speaking, and thinking in ways that make your ideas stand out. English helps you ask big questions, explore different viewpoints, and understand how stories shape the world. Whether you're planning to work in tech, medicine, law, business, or the arts, strong communication and creative thinking will take you further. An English minor doesn’t limit you. It gives you more ways to grow, connect, and make an impact.

The English minor strengthens your writing and critical thinking, making you a more effective communicator in any field—from engineering to political science.

Requirements (18 credit hours):

  • ENGL 220 or ENGL 221 (English Literature I or II)
  • ENGL 333 or ENGL 334 (African-American Literature I or II)
  • ENGL 430 or ENGL 431 (American Literature I or II)
  • 9 hours of ENGL electives (200 level or higher)

Eligibility:

  • Minimum GPA: 2.0
  • Minimum: 24 earned credit hours
  • Courses must be completed with a grade of C or better

The first-year composition program at 杏吧原创 杏吧原创 State University provides an introductory college writing curriculum designed to develop students’ critical thinking, rhetorical awareness, and academic writing skills within culturally responsive and socially conscious frameworks.
